conference ideasTed puts delegates in the spotlight

Every year TED hosts their own annual conference, which as you can imagine is a fascinating and engaging experience. This year the event was held in Vancouver towards the end of April. The theme was ‘The Age of Amazement’ and organisers pulled out all the stops by thinking outside of the box and incorporating a variety of immersive, and new conference ideas to the normal sit-down-and-listen type of conference. The idea of the event was to place the delegate at the centre of the conference.

The Ted conference organisers did this in a number of ways, one of which was to set up a mini stage and record delegates giving their own talks in the traditional Ted-Talk fashion. It proved to be very popular with the crowd with each recording being uploaded to a pretend TED site and each person then received their recording via email.

Delegates were also treated to an installation which was a sustainably designed wooden structure built outdoors and which hosted a variety of speakers.

Other delegate-centric ideas at the conference included Facebook Live interviews with some of the attending speakers, interactive and hands-on workshops and even an American first – taking a ride in a self-driving BMW i3.

It just goes to show, that with the right guidance and assistance in organising your event, the posibilities of imaginative conference ideas are endless. So if you’re looking for something different and more engaging for your next event, make sure your conference organisers are thinking outside of the box and are willing to create your dream event, no matter what!
