KZN VenuesAlthough it’s common knowledge that the north coast of KZN is booming with development, a recent article published in Travel & Meetings Buyer has highlighted a substantial lack of integrated beach resorts offering 300 or more rooms.

In the article it goes on to explain that the Acting General Manager for Tourism Development in KZN says the research points to the fact that, ‘’… the KZN coastline lacks a critical mass of internationally recognised beachfront hotels spanning the five-, four- and three-star brackets.’’ (Full Article Here)

So that is the current state of KZN venues on the north coast and the lack of variety of beach resorts and conferencing and events venues. However, there are a number of projects being developed at the moment which bodes well for the future of the industry in the region.

Current projects that are in various stages at the moment on the KZN North Coast include:

  • Tinley Manor Resort
  • Nonoti Beach Resort
  • Sovereign Sands Beach Resort
  • Blythedale Coastal Resort
  • Sibaya Resort Hotel
  • Port Durnfort Resort
  • St Lucia Hotel
  • KwaBonambi Hotel
  • Thokazi Royal Lodge Project
  • Durban Point Waterfront Hotel Development
  • Woodstock Dam

It will be interesting to see how these new KZN venues shape the events industry in South Africa and the KZN region in the future. By looking at some of the north coast destinations and types of developments being produced, they will be world class options for overseas visitors and the South African market in the leisure, business, or events and conference industry.
